With over 270,000 acres, Tejon Ranch is the largest contiguous expanse of land under single ownership in California. Its 426 square miles make it larger than the City of Los Angeles and about 40% the size of Rhode Island. The Ranch is located along Interstate 5, approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Bakersfield.

Tejon Ranch was assembled from four Mexican land grants and traces its roots back to 1843. It is the principal asset of the Tejon Ranch Company, which was incorporated in 1936. The company's stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (TRC).

Farming and ranching have been the primary activities at the ranch over the years, but in 2000 the ranch began some limited development of its real estate. The Tejon Industrial Complex (TIC) along Interstate 5 is the first example Tejon's development efforts. Planned for nearly 1,500 acres, it is expected to generate 6,000 new jobs and more than $5 million in local tax revenue for Kern County when it's fully completed.

The Tejon Ranch is also a partner with three major homebuilders in the development of the master-planned Centennial community. Working with Lewis Investment Company, Pardee Homes and Standard Pacific Homes, Tejon is developing Centennial at the southern-most portion of its property, near Highway 138 just east of Interstate 5. Over the course of 25 years, the partnership plans to build an entire, self-contained, sustainable community consisting of about 23,000 homes, along with schools, medical facilities, police and fire stations, recreational facilities and plenty of commercial and industrial space for businesses.

Tejon Ranch is also planning a low-density master-planned resort community called Tejon Mountain Village (TMV). Tejon's vision for Tejon Mountain Village is for it to be a 23,000-acre nature reserve made possible by a sensitively planned 5,000-acre mountain retreat. It is expected to include boutique resort hotels, golf courses, and a range of housing choices from lakeside cabins to custom estate homes. A convenient 45 minutes from Bakersfield, one hour from Los Angeles, and two hours from Newport Beach, Tejon Mountain Village will feature a mix of vacation-style homes and principal residences in a natural setting.

In addition to its ranching, farming and development activities, the Ranch also has hunting, mining and oil production operations. The diverse topography on the ranch also makes it a favorite location for the filming of movies, television programs and commercials.
